Racing: Kalla (SWE) claims victory ahead of Kowalczyk (POL) and Khazova (RUS)
Charlotte Kalle (SWE) claimed victory in the last distance race before the Olympics over ten kilometers in free technique ahead of Justyna Kowalczyk (POL) and Irina Khazova (RUS).
The Swede was the fastest women at the end with an advantage of 9.7 seconds and therefore was really happy: "It was a great race today. I am so happy as this is my first World Cup victory this season." Justyna Kowalczyk was able to increase her lead in the Overall World Cup by finishing in second today and explained: "This course is made for me. I like it very much. It is tough and hard but this is good for me."
Third-placed Irina Khazova completed the podium a further 6.8 seconds back. Valentina Shevchenko (UKR) achieved fourth place just shortly behind. Biathlete Miriam Gössner (GER) surprised in seventh place and thus made the top ten for the first time in a distance race in a cross country competition.
On the mens side Dario Cologna (SUI) only had to accept defeat to the two Italians Giorgio di Centa and Pietro Piller Cottrer. The Overal World cup winner from last season took third place 11.9 seconds behind the winner and is able to watch the Olympics in a good mood: "I felt well during the race and I am satisfied with my podium spot. It is a good sign for the Olympics and gives me self confidence."
Marcus Hellner (SWE) gained sixth place. The freshly baked Junior World Champion Petr Sedov (RUS) finished in eighth place shortly followed by Thomas Moriggl (ITA).
